Achieving a CDA credential is a significant step towards advancing your career in early childhood education. The Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children (Michigan AEYC) is committed to supporting individuals on this journey. Through a variety of resources and services, Michigan AEYC provides the guidance and tools needed to successfully complete the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential process.
CDA Training Cohorts in Partnership with Community Colleges
One of the key ways Michigan AEYC supports CDA candidates is through partnerships with community colleges. These partnerships offer CDA training for college-credit in a closed cohort section of child care provider peers. Barriers to traditional college course enrollment like placement testing are waived and college departments work with Michigan AEYC to provide a seamless and supportive enrollment process. Participants in these cohorts have the opportunity to:
- Network with peers: Connect with other early childhood professionals who are working towards the same goal.
- Receive expert instruction: Learn from experienced educators who are knowledgeable about the CDA standards and requirements.
- Earn credit toward a degree: Credits earned from the courses apply toward an associates degree in early childhood education.
CDA Training and Assessment Scholarships through T.E.A.C.H.
Michigan AEYC administers the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Michigan scholarship program. T.E.A.C.H. offers CDA training and Assessment scholarships to eligible early childhood professionals. These scholarships can help reduce or eliminate costs associated with pursuing the CDA and provide a bonus for completing the credentialing process.
Connections to Professional Development Specialists
To help candidates navigate the CDA Assessment process and schedule the required Verification Visit, Michigan AEYC provides connections to Professional Development Specialists in their area.
CDA Resource Days (Virtual and In-Person)
Michigan AEYC also hosts CDA Resource Days, both virtually and in-person. These events provide an opportunity for candidates to learn more about the CDA credential process, ask questions, and connect with other early childhood professionals. Topics covered at CDA Resource Days may include:
- CDA Competency Standards and requirements
- Portfolio development
- Verification Visit information
- CDA Exam practice
Individual Consultation from a Program Specialist at Michigan AEYC
In addition to the resources and services mentioned above, Michigan AEYC offers individuals the opportunity to connect with a Program Specialist who specializes in CDA credentialing. Program Specialists can provide personalized guidance and support to help candidates navigate the CDA credential process and applying for scholarship assistance to help cover the cost.
With the support of Michigan AEYC, early childhood professionals can confidently pursue the CDA credential, paving the way for career advancement and professional growth.
