Child Care Licensing FAQ
MiRegistry and Child Care Licensing work in partnership to support licensed child care providers. Here you will find frequently asked questions and their answers to help you navigate the new rules and ensure you and your organization are in compliance with child care licensing rules and regulations as they relate to MiRegistry.
Please note: there is an FAQ section for Providers and a section for Administrators.

Frequently Asked Questions- Providers
In order for MiRegistry to process any documentation, you must first have an open application/renewal in process. Please log into your MiRegistry account, click the "Apply for Membership" button, and then check the box next to "Become a member"/"Renew your membership". Then click the "Next" button at the bottom and follow the prompts.
Once you have done this, you can submit your documentation in one of the following ways:
- Emailing scanned copies of documentation to support@MiRegistry.org
- Utilizing the Ask Us/Submit Documents button at the bottom of each page when logged into your MiRegistry account. Type "Submit" in the How Can We Help? field, then click the Contact Us button to attach your documents.
Please note: We cannot accept unofficial transcripts. If you need to send an official transcript, please have the school of attendance email an encrypted PDF file of your official transcript directly to support@MiRegistry.org.
If you have not completed the initial health and safety series previously known as Health and Safety for Licensed Child Care Providers Course 1 and Course 2, follow the links in step #4 of the licensed provider roadmap to register and complete the initial health and safety series.
Once you have completed the initial health and safety series, you will need to complete the annual Health and Safety Refresher training every subsequent year. The initial health and safety series only needs to be completed once. If you completed the initial health and safety series in 2026, you do not need to complete the Health and Safety Refresher 2026 but you will need to complete the Health and Safety Refresher 2027 that will launch in Jan 2027.

Before CPR/First Aid course registration, ensure the course meets the following criteria:
- The course covers Adult CPR, Pediatric CPR, and Pediatric First Aid
- There is an in-person skills component.
- It is offered by a MiLEAP approved organization.
- Issues an official CPR/First Aid Card
After CPR/First Aid course completion, please follow the steps below:
- Log into your MiRegistry account, click Apply for membership, click Become a member/Renew your membership, review each section and submit the application.
- Email a PDF of your CPR/First Aid to support@miregistry.org. Processing takes 4-6 weeks from the date we receive documentation.
Frequently Asked Questions- Administrators
- Follow the steps in the Setting Up an Organization Profile guide.
- Once your profile is approved, your staff can follow the steps in the Connecting to an Organization as an Employee guide.
- Then, you will be able to follow the steps in the Verifying Employees guide to verify their employment.
You can utilize organization reports to see your staff’s verified information. To access organization reports:
- Log into your MiRegistry account
- Click the drop down menu displaying your name in the upper right hand corner
- Click your organization’s name.
- Click the Reports tab
Don’t see your organization listed in the drop-down menu? Request the profile owner grant you profile user access using the Managing Organization Profile Users guide.

Per the Child Care Licensing Center rules, by 5/07/27 all staff must have their qualifications verified in MiRegistry. At least 50% of program staff must be certified in Infant, Child, Adult CPR and Pediatric First Aid and certification must be verified in MiRegistry.
Per the Child Care Licensing Center Family and Group Home rules, by 4/27/28 all staff must have their qualifications verified in MiRegistry and must have their Adult and Pediatric CPR/Pediatric First Aid certifications verified in MiRegistry.
Administrators may submit documents on behalf of their staff. When doing so, we suggest you:
- Gather each person's documents and save as one PDF for that person. Please include their MiRegistry ID.
- Email support@miregistry.org and have one attachment per staff person applying or renewing their membership.
To ensure processing is not delayed, please make sure these individuals have submitted a membership renewal/application. An open application is required to process documentation. To see if your employee has an open application, view the Current Status column on the Employees tab of your organization profile.
If their status does not say Applied, Materials Received, Calculating, or Awaiting Print please advise your employee to log into their MiRegistry profile and click the "Apply for Membership" button. In the pop-up that appears, they should check the box next to the “Become a member/Renew your membership” option, click the "Next" button at the bottom, and then follow the prompts. If they have not Applied, their documentation will not be processed.
Any individual who has already completed Health and Safety Course 1 and 2 or Health and Safety Modules A, B, C and Transportation and Infant Safe Sleep for Michigan Child Care Providers in a prior year must complete this year’s Health and Safety Refresher training.

Beginning May 7th, 2027, at least 50% of center-based program staff must have valid CPR/First Aid cards VERIFIED in MiRegistry.
Beginning April 27th, 2028 all home-based staff must have valid CPR/First Aid cards VERIFIED in MiRegistry.

If you are a center-based administrator for a licensed program, please note the following:
By 5/7/27, center-based programs must be designated as a Training Sponsor Organization (TSO) and have their center-specific orientation training approved, and attendance verified in MiRegistry per Child Care Licensing.
The first step to meeting this requirement is for at least one person at your organization to become a MiRegistry Approved Trainer!
Once the trainer application has been approved, complete the following three steps to finalize the TSO designation for the organization:
- If not already connected, the trainer can Connect to the organization as an employee.
- You can mark their employment entry as 'Verified by Program' on the 'Employees' tab of the Organization Profile following our Verifying Employees Guide.
- In the 'Status' tab of the Organization Profile, submit a new Training Sponsor Agreement.
Once the sponsor agreement is approved, you can begin entering training and managing attendance. More information regarding entering your center-specific orientation will be available in the summer/fall of 2026.
- Within 30 calendar days after employment all staff shall have a verified program organization employment entry in MiRegistry.
- Within 30 calendar days after employment all staff shall have an individual MiRegistry account and a non-expired MiRegistry membership status, which includes submitted, materials received, awaiting print, calculating, or current.
- All staff must complete Health and Safety trainings as described in Step #4 of the licensed provider roadmap.
- All staff training to meet Child Care Center Licensing requirements must be approved in MiRegistry.
- MiRegistry-approved training means training that is submitted to MiRegistry by a MiRegistry approved trainer or MiRegistry training sponsor organization that meets the qualification for approval.
- All staff must have their qualifications verified in MiRegistry.
- All staff must have their CPR/First Aid certifications verified in MiRegistry.
- Within 30 calendar days after employment all program staff, unsupervised volunteers, and substitute teachers shall have a verified program organization employment entry in MiRegistry.
- Within 30 calendar days after employment all program staff, unsupervised volunteers, and substitute teachers shall have an individual MiRegistry account and a non-expired MiRegistry membership status, which includes submitted, materials received, awaiting print, calculating, or current.
- Program staff and unsupervised volunteers must complete Health and Safety trainings as described in Step #4 of the licensed provider roadmap.
- All staff training to meet Child Care Center Licensing requirements must be approved in MiRegistry.
- MiRegistry-approved training means training that is submitted to MiRegistry by a MiRegistry approved trainer or MiRegistry training sponsor organization that meets the qualification for approval.
- All staff must have their qualifications verified in MiRegistry.
- At least 50% of program staff must have their CPR/First Aid certifications verified in MiRegistry.
- All center-based programs must be designated as a Training Sponsor Organization (TSO) and have their center-specific orientation training approved, and attendance verified in MiRegistry per Child Care Licensing.
Your organization can become a MiRegistry Approved Training Sponsor Organization! By becoming a Training Sponsor Organization (TSO), your organization can create and submit training to MiRegistry for approval and manage attendance records in MiRegistry. By using MiRegistry, your attendees can find completion of your training verified in their MiRegistry profiles within minutes! To enter training in MiRegistry as a TSO, take the following steps:
- At least one individual from your organization must apply to become a MiRegistry Approved Trainer.
- Once the trainer application has been approved, complete the following three steps to finalize the TSO designation for the organization:
- If not already connected, the trainer can Connect to the organization as an employee.
- You can mark their employment entry as 'Verified by Program' on the 'Employees' tab of the Organization Profile following our Verifying Employees Guide.
- In the 'Status' tab of the Organization Profile, submit a new Training Sponsor Agreement.
- Once the sponsor agreement is approved, you can begin entering training and managing attendance.
****As a TSO, you can submit in-house training or training your staff have completed outside MiRegistry for approval. In-house training includes orientation, staff meetings, non-approved trainers conducting training for your staff, etc.

Providers can use the Position Qualification Training Crosswalk to find events that count toward the 15-hour Position Qualification Requirement. MiRegistry has created a slide deck resource which includes the Position Qualification Training Crosswalk, instructions for locating training, and instructions for using the Licensing Learning Record to calculate Position Qualification Training hour totals.
New Position Qualification Search. Coming late 2026!
In 2026, new Statewide Training Calendar development will make it easier for providers to find events that count toward the Position Qualification Requirement. A new search filter will be added to the Statewide Training Calendar. Using the dropdown and desired training position qualification as search criteria will return training events that specifically meet the position qualification requirement.
